The Danish DataHub facilitates and automates the execution of market processes and business transactions in the Danish energy retail market. Meter readings from approximately 3.3 million metering points (consumption and production) are registered and managed in the DataHub system for settlement purposes. The purpose of DataHub is to ensure uniform communication methods and standardised processes for professional participants in the electricity market in order to stimulate competition and optimise market conditions for electricity consumers.
In 2019, the work for a new DataHub 3.0 started. The vision was to create a platform with high reliability, scalability and flexibility. To continue driving this vision, the organisation Energinet DataHub needed stronger insights and guidelines regarding the reusability of what had already been developed, as well as alignment on the future development of DataHub 3.0.
They engaged with a team of expert advisors and senior engineers from Halfspace to conduct a full assessment and recommendation report. The report contained essential evaluations and recommendations that could push the progress forward. Through heavy stakeholder involvement and a deep technical review, the team evaluated the current state of DataHub 3.0.
Thoroughly assessing the technical and organisational context is crucial when implementing complex technological solutions to identify potential pitfalls and develop a clear strategy with detailed guidelines.
Dealing with data foundations, such as the Danish DataHub, requires expanding the scope of analysis beyond the technical components to understand the broader ecosystem and align solutions with stakeholder needs.
Thoroughly assessing an organisation's maturity and capabilities is essential before embarking on ambitious technological projects to address potential challenges and increase the chances of successful implementation.
